What are the Jeep Cherokee & Jeep Grand Cherokee?

Both the Jeep Cherokee and the larger Jeep Grand Cherokee are crossover/SUVs. The Jeep Cherokee is a hybrid while the Jeep Grand Cherokee runs by gasoline.

The new Jeep Cherokee is a five-passenger vehicle that is classified as a compact crossover utility vehicle. It is powered by a 1.6L I4 Turbo hybrid engine that delivers 210 maximum horsepower and 221 lb-ft of torque. It also has 500 miles of range.

The Jeep Cherokee is mated to a CVT transmission, with the towing capacity leader at 3,500 pounds.

The new Jeep Grand Cherokee is a midsized Sport Utility Vehicle that slots above the Jeep Cherokee. While the Jeep Cherokee measures 188.1 inches from front to rear, with a wheelbase of 113 inches, the Jeep Grand Cherokee runs the measuring tape to a length of 193.5 inches with a 116.7-inch wheelbase. Despite its larger size, the Grand Cherokee still carries up to five passengers.

Power for the Jeep Grand Cherokee comes from an embarrassment of rich powerplants. Start with the base 3.6-liter V6 that makes 293 horsepower and 257 lb-ft of torque. It includes standard two-wheel-drive and available all-wheel-drive (AWD). Next up is the 2.0-liter Hurricane 4 Turbo engine producing 324 horsepower and 332 lb-ft of torque. Shhh! Don't tell anyone, but it's a HEMI!

All engines in the Grand Cherokee send the power front and rear via an 8-speed automatic transmission. The Jeep Grand Cherokee tows up to an impressive 6,200 pounds.

What about inside the Cherokee & Grand Cherokee?

Inside the Jeep Cherokee, drivers will find an extremely modern interior with gauges and instruments located exactly where you would expect them to be. The standard infotainment system is based around the 12.3-inch Uconnect touchscreen system that incorporates Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. A 10.25 digital cluster display gives you real-time stats behind your steeling wheel.

Seating is good front and back and gets better as you go up the food chain trim level catalog. Cargo capacity behind the rear seat is 33.6 cubic feet. Fold those seats forward and that space opens up to a generous 68.3-cubic feet.

The interior of the Jeep Grand Cherokee features complete comfort all the way down to the base Laredo trim level. But as you climb the meat wagon in trim levels you will find supportive leather seating with heating and ventilating in the front and numerous other luxury features. The Jeep Grand Cherokee also has a 3-row option called the Grand Cherokee L.

Other options will dress up the Grand Cherokee even more, including the Uconnect 5 12.3-inch touchscreen system with Navigation and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. There's even a 19-speaker / 825 watt Harman Kardon audio system that makes your Jeep a high-performance concert hall on wheels.

Cargo capacity by the numbers measures up thusly: Behind the rear seat, you will find 37.7 cubic feet. Fold those rear seats forward and you will find a cavernous 70.8 cubic feet.
